"Maps Archive" on the Internet.

Introduction

The HyperDoc Information Server technology provides the possibility to publish on the Internet databases that where created with HyperDoc program.
Thanks to "Maps Archive" demo database one can directly access cartographical documentation present in the archive. Furthermore, there are shown possibilities to create in HyperDoc special graphical applications that utilize maps. The given example concerns running simple system of spatial information containing objects placed on the maps. This demonstration shows, among others, a gas network.

1. "Streets" hierarchy

The "Streets" hierarchy is an object oriented graphical application that allows navigating through the streets and squares. It presents advanced capabilities of HyperDoc in that area. Each object in the hierarchy has its graphical representation in the set of maps that cover an appropriate area. The main purpose of the system is to provide help in localizing the given street or square.

Object Links

By selecting one of the streets in the hierarchy, the area of the map containing this object will be automatically displayed. There is also a possibility to navigate through hierarchy by using the map. By clicking on a spot, like line representing street or circle representing square, the corresponding object in the hierarchy window will be selected.

2.The "Maps" Hierarchy

This is an archive of topographical maps divided into sheets and sets covering larger areas. This hierarchy provides help in navigating through maps. Maps used in this database have a very interesting feature: Adaptive Scaling. This function allows displaying maps in different scale according to enlargement of the map.

Adaptive Scaling

To see the full advantage of scalable zoom, first open the whole document using the "Zoom Extents" command. The map with three rectangle frames in different colours will appear. Each frame is a border of the area in which one can see the map in a different scale:
  • Inside the blue frame - scale of 1:50000
  • Inside the red frame - scale of 1:10000
  • Inside the green frame - scale of 1:5000
The scale of the main map is 1:200000. By zooming into the frames, the map in appropriate scale will be displayed.

Note: By further enlarging a given area of the map, where there is no frame with the different scale, the picture will disappear. This is due to the lack of a more precise map "below" that area. To see the previous map, simply zoom out.

3."Gas Network" hierarchy

Next example of object application is the "Gas Network". It presents advanced capabilities of HIS in creating graphical applications. The hierarchy consists of gas pipes and different elements of gas network. Each pipe is described by number, material type, diameter, mounting depth, installation and reparation date. The main task of the application is to search and graphically represent the gas network elements. Each element of the gas network is represented on the map as icon and the route of pipes as poly-line.

Demonstration Databases

These databases are using LIVE software and real data - not predefined HTML pages.
Maps Archive
To run this demo one must use the following user account:
  • admin password: admin
This is due to the access control system implemented in HIS.

Other Databases

NetMan
Standard HyperDoc demonstration database.
